How Do We Treat Fungus?
We treat Fungal toenails (onychomycosis) with the GenesisPlus Laser. GensisPlus is new approach to addressing toenail fungus that puts patients’ safety and comfort first. The system applies laser energy to the toenail plate and surrounding tissue. The laser light gradually heats the fungus and promotes the growth of healthy, clear nails. The procedure requires no anesthetics and poses no risk of serious side effects. Treatment typically takes 20-30 minutes, and patients are able to return to regular activities immediately following the procedure.
What is Onychomycosis?
Onychomycosis means infection of your nails, either finger or toe nails with fungus.
How Did I Get This?
Fungal infection is a common condition that often develops in our middle years and will affect as much as 30 to 40% of the population. Fungus and molds are commonly found in our environment in moist, damp and dark places, so the toenails are most commonly involved. The most common source of the infection are communal bathing areas such as showers, swimming pools and spas.
How Do I Treat This?
Creams and Ointments - prescription anti-fungal ointments and powders, nail varnishes with active ingredients, iodine, and even Vicks vapor rub.
Oral Antifungal Antibiotics - Lamisil and Sporanox are the only two approved antibiotics for fungal antibiotic care.
Laser - Medical grade lasers offer the first safe and effective treatment option for most people. The fungus is exposed to intense light which penetrates approximately 2mm into the nail and surrounding tissue and effectively eliminated the fungal spores.
